Final asphalt paving at the Amelia Island Parkway and Buccaneer Trail roundabout is scheduled to begin Saturday, Oct. 24, and may continue into Sunday, Oct. 25, weather permitting.

Drivers should expect flaggers and single-lane closures along the corridor during paving, according to a notice from Nassau County posted by communications officer Sabrina Robertson. No full detours are planned. The county did not specify a start time for the work.

Pavement markings will be installed at least 14 days after paving to allow the new asphalt to cure properly.

The roundabout project has been in the works for about a year. Nassau County commissioners unanimously approved a $1,824,936.18 construction contract with MAER Homes, LLC, doing business as MAER Construction, in December 2025, according to county commission minutes. Commissioner Martin made the motion, and Commissioner McCullough seconded it. Commissioners Gray, Farmer and Huppmann also voted in favor.

An Oct. 2 project update from the county said all 13 light poles at the roundabout had been installed. That update listed final paving for Oct. 10-11. The county has not stated a reason for the two-week shift to Oct. 24-25.

The roundabout paving is a separate project from a Buccaneer Trail resurfacing effort between the South Fletcher Roundabout near Harris Teeter and Marian Drive. That work, part of Nassau County's FY 2025/26 Level & Overlay program, was rescheduled due to weather and slated for nighttime hours on Oct. 14-15.
