Woodrow Drive, Island Walkway closures begin Oct. 26 in Fernandina Beach

Florida Public Utilities will begin closing sections of Woodrow Drive and Island Walkway in Fernandina Beach on Monday, Oct. 26, for utility pole replacement work.

The closures are part of the company's 2026 Pole Replacement Project and will affect sections of the roads between South Eighth Street and South 14th Street, according to an Oct. 20 notice published by Nassau County. Work is scheduled through Friday, Nov. 6.

Detours and speed restrictions

Closures will occur in phases, with only one road segment closed at a time.

Through traffic will be detoured along Sadler Road, using South Eighth Street and South 14th Street as connectors. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and allow additional travel time.

A 25 mph work zone speed limit will be in effect.

Access to businesses and homes maintained

Businesses along Island Walkway will retain access through their primary entrances during construction, according to the notice from Florida Public Utilities.

Residents and other local businesses in the affected area will also maintain access to their properties.
