Golfers will gather at Amelia River Golf Club in Fernandina Beach on Friday, Oct. 23, for the annual Reggie Hunt Memorial Golf Classic, raising money for youth mentoring programs and an academic scholarship in Nassau County.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida is organizing the tournament, its largest annual fundraiser in Nassau County, according to the Fernandina Beach News-Leader.

The event will take place at Amelia River Golf Club, 4477 Buccaneer Trail. Convergence Employee Leasing is the presenting sponsor, according to a Big Brothers Big Sisters announcement.

Proceeds will support the organization's mentoring services for Nassau County children and the Reggie Hunt academic scholarship.

Tournament honors Fernandina Beach athlete

The tournament honors William Reginald "Reggie" Hunt Jr., a former Fernandina Beach High School student-athlete who participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for six years.

His memory has been central to the annual fundraiser for three decades.

According to the Amelia Island tourism website, the tournament supports mentoring relationships that help young people build confidence, develop skills and pursue educational opportunities.

The event also contributes to an academic scholarship established in Hunt's memory, extending its impact beyond the golf course.

Registration open for fundraiser

Big Brothers Big Sisters has opened registration for golfers and supporters interested in participating in the tournament.

The organization works to connect young people with adult mentors who provide guidance, encouragement and support.

The golf classic is one of its signature fundraising events in Nassau County, bringing together local businesses, golfers and community supporters.

Registration and additional tournament information are available through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida events page.
