All 10 seats are taken for the Amelia Island Museum of History's first "Dinner Date with History" fundraiser, set for Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Hoyt House in Fernandina Beach.
The sold-out dinner, titled "An Evening with Mr. & Mrs. Hoyt," runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the historic bed-and-breakfast at 804 Atlantic Ave. The evening is designed to give guests a taste of dining and conversation in Fernandina Beach more than a century ago, near the end of the city's Golden Age around 1912.
The Fernandina Beach News-Leader reported that both the venue and culinary services are being donated.
Hoyt House owners Lindy and David Chapman are providing the space, while former España chef Roberto Pestana will prepare a special dinner featuring ingredients and dishes inspired by the period, accompanied by wine pairings.
Pestana opened España Restaurant & Tapas at 22 S. Fourth St. in 2004. The restaurant, in Fernandina Beach's historic district, specializes in Spanish and Portuguese cuisine.
Hoyt House and museum partner again
The dinner marks the second partnership this year between the Hoyt House and the museum.
On Feb. 14, the two hosted the Love Legacy Gala, a museum fundraiser celebrating Fernandina Beach's Golden Age. The Chapmans provided the Hoyt House for the event as they marked their first anniversary as owners of the property, according to the Fernandina Observer.
The Amelia Island Museum of History is housed in the former Nassau County Jail at 233 S. Third St. The museum describes itself as Florida's first spoken history museum.
It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Docent-led museum tours are offered at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Dinner launches new museum series
The Oct. 6 event is billed as the first installment of "Dinner Date with History." The museum has not announced another dinner in the series.
The museum has several other programs scheduled this fall, including a Brown Bag Lunch on Oct. 7, Graveside Chronicles on Oct. 10 and a "3rd on 3rd" program on Oct. 16.
Its annual Holiday Home Tour returns Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5, with five decorated historic homes in Fernandina Beach open for tours.
