Fernandina Beach High School will debut a new digital scoreboard Friday, Sept. 18, when the Pirates host their Homecoming football game in a newly renovated stadium.

The Fernandina Beach High School Foundation is leading the dedication ceremony, which coincides with the first home game played in the upgraded facility. The Fernandina Observer reported the dedication Wednesday, Sept. 16. The game is scheduled at 435 Citrona in Fernandina Beach.

The stadium renovation was funded through Nassau County's one-mill property-tax referendum, which voters approved in 2022. That levy supports teacher compensation, school safety, arts and athletics across the district. In an Aug. 13 construction update on Facebook, FBHS Pirate Athletics described the campus as on track to become one of the area's premier athletic facilities. Nassau County voters will decide on a millage renewal in the November election.

The scoreboard is a project of the FBHS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1987 to support programs that government funding alone could not cover. In 2022, the foundation committed $1 million to the school over 10 years, funded by private donations from community members and local businesses. It invests $100,000 annually in program and school-wide grants, according to its website. The foundation held its annual Trivia Night fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 11, one week before the scoreboard dedication.

The foundation is still selling logo placements on the new scoreboard to local businesses.

The official kickoff time was not confirmed as of publication. The Amelia Island events page lists the event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., while MaxPreps shows a 7 p.m. start against Clay.

The Pirates' next scheduled home game is Friday, Sept. 25, against West Nassau.
