Drivers heading onto Amelia Island will lose one eastbound lane on the Shave Bridge on Wednesday, Sept. 2, while state inspectors check the span.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) scheduled the single-lane closure on State Road 200 over the Amelia River from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to a traffic advisory published by the Nassau County Chamber of Commerce. The closure is for routine bridge inspections.
The lane reopens at 3:30 p.m.
The Shave Bridge carries SR 200/A1A traffic from the mainland onto Amelia Island. It is separate from the Nassau Sound Bridge on State Road A1A at the island's south end, which has also seen recent FDOT lane closures for inspection work.
FDOT has noted that bridge inspections require daylight because inspectors need adequate visibility to assess structural conditions, according to a separate advisory about the Nassau Sound Bridge. The agency performed a similar daytime lane closure on the Shave Bridge for maintenance inspection in May 2025, according to The County Insider.
The schedule is subject to change based on weather or unforeseen circumstances. The advisory did not include details on traffic management or alternate routes during the closure.
Motorists can check real-time conditions through FL511, a free FDOT service available as a mobile app or at FL511.com. FDOT District 2 posts lane closure updates on X at @MyFDOT_NEFL and on Facebook at MyFDOTNEFL.
